Cleveland University-Kansas City is a private, non-profit college Overland Park, Kansas. Cleveland University-Kansas City is known primarily for its Doctor of Chiropractic degree program, but offers other educational options in the health sciences. The university was started by one of the first families of chiropractic and is located in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park. The university has been in operation in Kansas City area since 1922 and has been at its current location since 2008.

History

Cleveland University-Kansas City was founded in 1922 as the Central College of Chiropractic. The founders of the school where Drs. C. S. and Ruth Cleveland, and Dr. Perl B. Griffin, all three graduates of Palmer College of Chiropractic. After two years Central College of Chiropractic was renamed to Cleveland Chiropractic College.

In 1951 the college absorbed what was, at the time, the Ratledge System of Chiropractic Schools located in Los Angeles, and rechartered the school in 1955 as Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles. By 2011 the Los Angeles campus and the Kansas City campuses merged together, staying centrally put in Kansas.

In 2015, Cleveland Chiropractic College changed the name of the institution to Cleveland University-Kansas City. "The name change and expanded identity supports the university's degree program expansion, and is centered around the university's vision for providing leadership in health science and health promotion education," said Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III, university president and leader of the university's 10-year strategic plan. Today, the university is led by Dr. Carl S. Cleveland III, the grandson of the founders.

Accreditation

Cleveland University-Kansas City is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Doctor of Chiropractic degree program at Cleveland Chiropractic College is awarded programmatic accreditation by The Council on Chiropractic Education.

Campus

Two primary buildings provide 177,000 square feet (16,400 m2) of space. In addition, these buildings house the Public Health Center, the Student Clinic, a cafeteria, the Cleveland Fitness Center and the Special Beginnings daycare center.

The college offers the Doctor of Chiropractic degree, a Master of Science in Health Promotion, Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and an Associate of Arts in Biological Sciences. Students pursuing these degrees, as well as students pursuing degrees in other health care professions, can take their prerequisite physical and life sciences courses in accelerated, eight-week intervals at the college. Accelerated academic programs allow students to earn degrees concurrently.
